It has finally happened.
After rumors of a sale to Yahoo Inc, Activision has acquired the North American eSports giant Major League Gaming (MLG).
In a move to bolster their eSports foothold, Activision has reportedly purchased MLG for $46 million:
“Our acquisition of Major League Gaming’s business furthers our plans to create the ESPN of eSports,” Activision CEO Bobby Kotick says in a press release. “MLG’s ability to create premium content, its proven broadcast technology platform — including its live streaming capabilities — strengthens our strategic position in competitive gaming.”
Sundance DiGiovanni will continue to lead the company (MLG) as daily operations will be unchanged for the foreseeable future. This move does not come as a complete surprise as both Mike Sepso, who Co-Founded MLG with DiGiovanni and the popular personality Chris Puckett had already moved over to Activision.
